Title: Industrial Internet of Things and Smart Personalized Manufacturing

Abstract: The industrial Internet of Things enables the connection of sensors, devices, and systems, and the rapid communication of data among them. Such data provide unprecedented opportunities for smart manufacturing, including real-time monitoring and optimal decision making. This talk will reflect on the advances of manufacturing in response to several technological revolutions. An example of lithium-ion battery manufacturing will be used to discuss the characteristics of smart manufacturing and the need for data analytics research. In addition, connection among customers, manufacturers, and suppliers is also creating a new paradigm of personalized manufacturing where customers actively participate in the design and fabrication of products or product components. Recent research activities in personalized manufacturing will also be highlighted.
