Postdoctoral Fellow Positions (NZFSP)
Net Zero Freight Systems Program (NZFSP)
Professors Benoit Montreuil and Valerie Thomas
Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, USA
We are seeking to hire up to three post-doctoral fellows in the Net Zero Freight program at the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering of the Georgia Institute of Technology.
This program addresses the grand challenge of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions from freight systems by simultaneously addressing fuels, vehicles, and the design of effective material transportation and logistics systems. It combines teaching and research with industrial, government, and civil society engagement to identify and amplify priority improvement opportunities.
We seek applicants for two complementary types of positions on a one-year renewable basis. The first will focus on design of freight systems based on the Physical Internet and hyperconnected logistics and transportation. The successful candidate will have expertise in freight, logistics and/or transportation systems design, modeling, analysis, and/or governance. The second will focus on transition to electric and non-carbon fuels. The successful candidate will have expertise in a combination of life cycle assessment, energy systems modeling, policy and/or techno-economic analysis.
Preferably, applicants have: (1) Ph.D. in industrial engineering, supply chain engineering, freight systems, logistics, industrial ecology, macro-energy systems, sustainable energy systems, public policy, energy resources, chemical, civil, or electrical engineering, or related fields; (2) Strong quantitative and computational competences; (3) Exceptional communication skills; (4) Interest and experience in sustainability and emissions reduction. These postdoctoral positions include a competitive salary, benefits, collaborative gateways, and access to cutting-edge research environment, technology, and laboratories. Review of applicants will begin immediately, for start in December 2022 or January 2023.
