Assistant Professor Gian-Gabriel Garcia joined ISyE on August 1, 2021. Garcia’s research integrates data-driven prediction and decision models to address high-impact problems in health policy and personalized medicine. He is especially interested in how equity considerations and social/behavioral dynamics impact optimal decision-making. This research spans applications to concussion, opioids, and chronic diseases and has been awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, an INFORMS Bonder Scholarship, the SMDM Lee B. Lusted Prize, and first prize in the INFORMS Minority Issues Forum Paper Competition.
Before joining ISyE, Garcia was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School.
Garcia received his Ph.D. and M.S. from the University of Michigan and his B.S. from the University of Pittsburgh. He is also passionate about supporting underrepresented students in engineering through mentorship and outreach.
