The College of Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology is seeking nominations and applications from qualified individuals for the position of Chair of the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. The successful candidate will also hold the H. Milton and Carolyn Stewart Endowed Chair. The School has a student population of nearly 1,700 undergraduates and approximately 350 graduate students, 125 of whom are pursuing a Ph.D. Currently, there are 50 full-time academic faculty members. The primary disciplinary strengths represented by the School’s faculty are: modern industrial engineering, operations research, and statistics. Major methodological research concentrations include mathematical optimization, stochastic processes, and engineering statistics with prominent application domains arising in supply chain logistics, health, manufacturing, system informatics, finance, energy, natural systems, and others.
Candidates for this position must have an earned doctorate or equivalent experience, and national and international recognition in their specific discipline. A proven record of excellence in academic and professional scholarly achievements is essential. The successful candidate should have the strategic skills and vision to lead the School toward higher levels of excellence within a multi-disciplinary and high–technology environment and be able to establish a successful working relationship with federal, state and private funding agencies. The Chair has a leadership role in increasing private and public support for the School; developing and maintaining close relationships with alumni of the School is essential.
The Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Engineering and is responsible for all administrative, budgetary and personnel decisions within the School. The successful candidate will be expected to provide evidence of fiscal responsibility and exhibit excellent leadership and management abilities, particularly interpersonal, team-building, and effective communication skills. It is essential that the Chair provide leadership to an experienced, talented School staff.
