Meet Yame Rollins, a dedicated mother who not only excels as the Development Assistant Senior at H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and System Engineering but also thrives in the rewarding journey of motherhood.
In this interview, Rollins shares her insights and experiences on balancing the roles of being a mother and pursuing other responsibilities.
Q: What has been the most rewarding aspect of being a mother for you?
A: Yame finds immense joy in witnessing her daughter, Kiara Dees, grow into a young lady. She cherishes moments like coordinating outfits, actively participating in her daughter's activities, and capturing memories through photographs.
Q: What advice would you give to balance the role of being a mother with other responsibilities around you? Do you still find yourself having to balance that role as they grow up?
A: "Prioritization is key. Focus on what needs to be done first and maintain a schedule to stay on track. Ensure that you're prioritizing your needs alongside your child's. Balancing evolves as they grow; it's an ongoing process regardless of their age."
Q: How has motherhood changed you or influenced your personal growth?
A: Motherhood has instilled significant maturity and taught Yame the value of selflessness. The responsibility of caring for her child has contributed immensely to her personal growth.
Q: As someone who works for a college, how do you approach your child's education?
A: Yame sees education as invaluable, recognizing its role in opening doors and creating opportunities. She mentions that being a minority has not negatively impacted her daughter due to the diverse environment at her school.
Q: Are there new skills or insights you have gained through your experience as a mother?
A: Motherhood fosters patience, not only with her child but also with others. Understanding the challenges of raising a child makes her more empathetic toward other parents as she understands new challenges.
