i. Kennestone Hospital has recently implemented new features within Epic to assist with discharge planning, communication, and timeliness of discharge to right-size the LOS for patients at their facility.
ii. While these features have been implemented, they have not yet been operationalized, meaning they have not been incorporated into the day to day workflow of all impacted staff, so the desired outcomes of LOS improvement have not yet been realized.
b. Desired Outcomes:
i. Partner with the Director of Industrial Engineering at Wellstar and the leadership staff at Kennestone Hospital to:
1. Understand the current challenges with implementing the Epic discharge improvement features and the current plan for operationalization.
2. Determine the best process measures to track the usage and effectiveness of the new Epic features.
3. Determine processes that should incorporate the new features and make recommendations on how to upgrade those processes to improve LOS.
4. Build a plan for implementation of process changes to incorporate new features and improve LOS.
5. Participate in the implementation process as time allows.
