Hextronics, operating under Hex, Inc, is a GT-founded drone automation company based in Miami, Fl.Hextronics is a venture back startup that has been operating for a little more than 3 years and was started & founded by a former yellow jacket and now consists of 3 Georgia Tech grads. Hextronics makes Drone-in-a-Box hardware and has shipped 200+ stations to over 30 countries worldwide and continues to see growth. Hextronics products are used in Agriculture, Oil&Gas, Public Safety, Construction, Inspections, and a wide variety of other industries. Hextronics has about 30 employees, with over half of those being technicians.
Project Description
Hextronics is a startup and our processes would benefit greatly from standardization as well as a more data driven approach to our manufacturing. Our manufacturing facilities will be expanding from 5,000 sq ft to over 10,000 sq feet by the end of the year. We need a group of students to help Hex shape the layout and optimization of our expansion to a larger manufacturing floor as well as establish an easier approach for identifying bottlenecks. A member from the team is an ISyE grad and has previously gone through the senior design process, knowing the requirements, effort, & cadence required for a successful project.A successful senior design project could accomplish one or more of the following:
- Reduction in the long lead time for our products
- Optimized warehouse layout / production flow, leading to greater throughput
- Implementation of a data gathering system to track each stage of the production / quality testing process more closely
- Developing a system to optimize the sub-assembly stations, allowing the team to allocate / utilize labor more efficiently
