Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA)

Client Profile

Public transit is the lifeblood of any thriving city, connecting its people to opportunities and each other. For 45 years, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has played a central role in shaping the way millions of residents and visitors experience the Atlanta region. In fact, MARTA was recently recognized as one of the top transit agencies in the country, receiving the Outstanding Public Transportation System Award from the American Public Transportation Association.

Project Description

MARTA Mobility paratransit service is a reservation-based public transportation service for individuals with disabilities traveling in MARTA’s service area. The current demand for MARTA Mobility service is outstripping our capacity to deliver it and is expected to continue to grow in the foreseeable future.

We are seeking a proposal to analyze how MARTA can optimize the scheduling of Mobility trips to serve the current and future demand more effectively and efficiently with existing resources. The team will analyze detailed data on current trips, considering rider-specific requirements and operational constraints. The goal is to leverage MARTA’s bus and rail system more effectively for Mobility trips, reduce average Mobility trip lengths, and increase Mobility vehicle occupancy to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the service, enhancing the rider experience and reducing operational costs. Ideally, the optimization will also improve on-time performance, increase passenger per hour rate, and decrease passenger on-board time.
