In research, fundamental methods and principles from our field are going to be very important. AI is becoming center stage, and many of the foundational methods and tools in AI actually come from our field. On the education side, this calls for revisiting what we are offering, how we are offering, and maybe thinking about some transformation to meet today's and future needs. We have opportunities for leadership outside of academia as well, to influence national policies or decisions. We need to redefine our field and communicate and promote our capabilities.

Inspirit Reshapes the Future of STEM Learning with 3D Interactive Models

Amrutha Vasan was a fourth-year student at the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) when she and fourth-year computer science student Aditya Vishwanath began working with Neha Kumar, associate professor in the College of Computing, to develop smartphone-based virtual reality (VR) content for the classroom. They tested the effectiveness of their technology in a study involving almost 350 high school and middle school students, seeing promising results in not only improved grades but also in engagement and interest levels.
