Future Students

At ISyE, we work on ways to improve a variety of complex systems by formulating and analyzing abstract models in search of making systems more efficient and optimizing performance. We address how people and the decisions they make contribute to the complexity of systems and how people benefit when those systems are analyzed. We immerse ourselves in the depth and breadth of decision-based technical problem solving by focusing on the disciplines of industrial engineering, operations research, and systems engineering. So, what does that all mean?

Economic Decision Analysis

You are considering making a bid to purchase the oil company Bigoil Inc. Your plan includes paying cash for all of Bigoil's outstanding shares whatever the value may be at time of acquisition.

Bigoil has recently put the company on the line by basing its future on a single exploration project. The value of Bigoil, based upon the outcome of this project, could be as much as $100 million or as little as $0. In fact, Bigoil knows the value of the company based on the exploration, but you do not.

However, you calculate that it is equally likely that the value of Bigoil will fall anywhere between the stated extremes ($0 and $100 million). Because of your management expertise, you will be able to increase the value of Bigoil by 50% once you purchase them. As long as your offer bid is equal to or exceeds Bigoil's current value, they will accept. What should you bid?

Visits and Admission

Freshman and transfer student admission to the Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) is overseen by the Georgia Tech Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Regardless of major, students apply through the Office of Admission for Undergraduate Students. There is no secondary application process for ISyE.Once a month, an information session at ISyE is held, which will provide details about the undergraduate BSIE curriculum and student services. Prospective undergraduate students are highly encouraged to attend a campus tour and admission information session provided by the Office for Undergraduate Admission.

If you will be on campus, but not during one of the tours, you may request an informal meeting during business hours with an ISyE Ambassador.
